Advances in generative artificial intelligence (genai) have sparked widespread debate in education. according to a survey by the digital education council (dec), 86 percent of students use ai in their learning, with chatgpt being the most widely used tool. given that students constitute a considerable proportion of genai users, concerns arise regarding the potential misuse of this technology.

Generative ai isn’t just a sophisticated calculator; it changes how we understand knowledge. it’s reshaping how students conceptualise expertise, creativity, and their own cognitive. Despite widespread interest in ai, particularly gen ai tools like chatgpt, no comprehensive systematic review to date has focused on the pedagogical applications of genai in higher education, specifically targeting studies published in 2023 and 2024 – the first two years post chatgpt. Imagining how a revolutionary technology like generative ai could make education accessible is the inspiration of our project. we envisioned a learning platform that offers a learning path for any topic of interest and tailors it based on the user's level of expertise on that topic. Therefore, this qualitative study aims to explore how teachers perceive and adopt genai in school education and suggest strategies for schools to create a positive ai ready environment, as viewed by school teachers and leaders. Since the debut of ai in education (aied) more than three decades ago (mccalla 2023), various ai approaches have been considered to foster innovative teaching and learning practices, presenting opportu nities that would have otherwise been impossible to materialise.
