In this article, we examined insights into gamification in education and training environments from current academic literature over a ten year period, to answer three research questions concerning gamification theories, frameworks, models, elements and mechanics, along with constraints, challenges and organisational impediments that may appear. By creating a more engaging and enjoyable learning environment, educators can leverage gamification to meet the diverse needs of students, encouraging them to take ownership of their learning.
