Freotopia Town Clerks There was a town trust from 1848 with a chairman and five members but no clerk. as c. a. manning was honorary rate collector, perhaps he could be seen as having served as the equivalent of a clerk. murray edmonds was assistant town clerk fremantle in 1966. Freotopia Town Clerks Freotopia (called fremantle stuff until 2023) is a website that was built and maintained by garry gillard about the history of fremantle. it was established in 2014, and stopped receiving updates when he died in 2024. There was a move among the colonists to secure greater control of the management of their affairs and in 1871 the fremantle town council was formed, with a chairman and nine councillors. Fresh duties had compelled him to relinquish his military services, for in 1872, on the passing of the first municipal act, he was pressed to accept the position of town clerk of fremantle, the duties of which position he performed in conjunction with those of schoolmaster until 1892. Noel j.c. mccombe was fremantle town clerk 1947 66. mccoombe avenue (samson), which curves around samson reserve between south street and winterfold road was very likely named to honour him. The official opening, on 22 june 1887, coincided with the celebration of queen victoria's jubilee and it was formally named by the mayor, daniel k. congdon and the governor, sir frederick broome, as the town and jubilee hall. Back home, he trained as an accountant under the commonwealth reconstruction training scheme and was appointed assistant town clerk (1949–53) and then town clerk (1953–61) with the north fremantle municipal council.
