My xj was just neglected, never abused. in a way, maybe i'd rather have that thing rip off the axle, than have the full force of a solid wheel hit transmit directly to the unibody and tweak the "frame" so maybe not all bad.
My 95 Xj R Cherokeexj I've checked my flex plate bolts, they're tight and i can't see any cracks from underneath, so i'm thinking ill proceed with the engine removal. can you recommend a good brand re build kit?. My '95 xj 4.0 4wd se is making a sort of intermittent knocking sound when turning the wheel and sometimes braking. i got under there today and tried moving stuff around and nothing seemed too loose (sway bar, ball joints) although i'm no expert. I followed the suggestion of putting anti sieze on the rear drive shaft splines and the clunk is gone! thanks paul. I think it is related to my throttle, or the act of fuel pumping at a rate higher than idle. when i have it in gear, and there is the noise, if i let off pressure on the accelerator, it goes away. since you mentioned the exhaust as an issue… i do need a new exhaust, you think that could be the knocking? engine noises coming.
