Another example is on yaxchilan, lintel 31, where it appears as part of the proper name of a building, structure 10 (figure 4, bottom). there we see the name introduced by the same sequence, in a more conventional glyphic arrangement: k’inich ahin na. Although phonetic decipherment of the maya hieroglyphic writing system was initially achieved in the 1950’s, it was not until the 1980’s that this approach was widely accepted and became the established paradigm. Here i reveal the existence of the ancient maya hand sign script through a decipherment of hand signs with numerical value and calendrical function. to do this, i devised a novel approach.
