In this paper, we present a comparison of two rural landscapes in the southeast of the iberian peninsula, where the dynamics of occupation have differed since the end of the ancient world in terms of both the degree of resilience of settlements and the land use. Increasing socio ecological resilience is a long term goal for deal island peninsula stakeholders, both for those who live locally as well as those from outside the community engaged in research, governance, and advocacy.
