Esa The Instrument
Esa Instrument Desk The altius instrument is designed to operate continuously over one orbit in various modes. it will perform acquisitions in a broad wavelength range coping with large differences in light intensity across the various observed scenes. The themis plasma instrument is designed to measure the ion and electron distribution functions over the energy range from a few ev up to 30 kev for electrons and 25 kev for ions.
Esa Instrument Set Up The overall mechanical and electrical design of the themis esa plasma instrument was directly derived from the fast plasma instrument (carlson et al., 2001). below we present a description of the instrument geometry and data products, followed by an in depth discussion of the calibrations. The themis ion and electron electrostatic analyzers (esas) are packaged together to provide a common field of view. the left hand figure shows an esa with the anode cover removed, revealing coupling capacitors. The themis plasma instrument is designed to measure the ion and electron distribution functions over the energy range from a few ev up to 30 kev for electrons and 25 kev for ions. The themis ion and electron electrostatic analyzers (iesa and eesa) measure plasma over the energy range from a few ev up to 30 kev for electrons and 25 kev for ions. the instrument consists of a pair of "top hat" electrostatic analyzers with common 180° by 6° fields of view that sweep out 4π steradians each 3s spin period.

It is the first satellite to carry a p band synthetic aperture radar. the instrument’s feed array, which transmits and receives the radar pulses, is mounted on the outside of the satellite, at the base of the instrument panel. it consists of four patches arranged in two pairs, called doublets.
