Esa Metop Sg Patch Not only does the metop sg mission ensure continuity of data from polar orbit for numerical weather prediction, weather forecasting and climate analysis, it improves on the accuracy and resolution of the original metop mission, and adds new measurements to its list of deliverables. The mission is developed by esa (european space agency) and eumetsat (european organisation for the exploitation of meteorological satellites), and divided into two different series, metop sg a and b, with complementary sensor payloads that will orbit in pairs.

Building on the legacy of the first generation metop satellites, the metop second generation (metop sg) mission ensures the continued delivery of essential data for global weather forecasting and climate analysis – with significantly enhanced capabilities. Less than three weeks after its launch, the first metop second generation (metop sg a1) satellite has begun transmitting data from two of its six instruments, signaling a new stage in european weather and climate monitoring.
