Part of an on going project titled empty spaces that fill my heart which documents hong kong canadian spaces in the city of richmond and vancouver british columbia canada. with the events that happened in 2019 in hong kong and the subsequent reaction of the government, i felt a longing for a city that i could no longer return to. this spurred an urgency to document these cultural spaces that. Here, we talk with chad about the relationship between space and cultural identity, and how, despite a seeming emptiness, these spaces can still fill our hearts. The space it’s being shown in, the slice of life shop and gallery is an excellent place to acquaint yourself with a new artist. a charming den of sorts with a relaxed vibe in an idyllic section of the venables and commercial area, it’s one of vancouver’s preeminent hubs of emerging talent. Empty spaces that fill my heart is an ongoing photographic documentation project dedicated to collecting images of discarded or semi abandoned and forgotten places through the medium of photography.
