Electrification Into The Future The Pwi We offer a range of in person and virtual courses developed and delivered by experienced railway engineering experts. our programmes cover a range of specialist areas including track, electrification, s&c systems, and earthworks, drainage and off track activities. Join us on 14th may for light rail: making city rail travel more sustainable – hear from industry leaders on the future of light rail, key sector challenges, and the innovations driving more sustainable urban transport → find out more. Taken from our technical seminar – powering success: electrification and building the future, this presentation introduces railway energy systems and provides supporting case studies. Railway electrification is the use of electric power for the propulsion of rail transport. electric railways use either electric locomotives (hauling passengers or freight in separate cars), electric multiple units (passenger cars with their own motors) or both. Plans under development to de carbonise the uk rail network to achieve net zero include research and development to build battery and hydrogen powered trains. such technologies have promise but are unlikely ever to be used for heavy or high speed trains. Presentation from the pwi technical seminar: sustainable infrastructure (bristol).
