Eib Annual Meeting 2019 Highlights Excellenceinbreeding
Eib Annual Meeting 2019 Highlights Excellenceinbreeding At its 2019 annual meeting, the cgiar excellence in breeding platform outlined an ambitious vision for breeding program modernization designed to deliver on the two key metrics demanded by the donors behind crops to end hunger: greater rates of variety turnover and genetic gain in farmers’ fields. Farmers and consumers in low and middle income countries can benefit from world class breeding programs, according to a detailed vision developed by the cgiar excellence in breeding platform (eib).
Eib Annual Meeting 2019 Highlights Excellenceinbreeding We will then define a roadmap going forward, defining roles, responsibilities, eib and crops to end hunger support to the cgiar breeding program modernization process. What does an efficient, effective and client oriented modern breeding program look like? with the center improvement plans introduced in 2018 now underway, we wish to use this opportunity to develop a consensus definition of the modern breeding program including components, structures and functions. As cgiar and national agricultural research and extension systems (nares) modernize crop breeding programs, excellence in breeding has worked to coordinate and support breeding teams to improve strategies, technologies and practices. We will then define a roadmap going forward, defining roles, responsibilities, eib and crops to end hunger support to the cgiar breeding program modernization process.

Building on the feedback and opportunities outlined by breeding program leaders, national agricultural research program leaders present will join biswanath das (eib) in discussing opportunities for collaboration and modernization in nars breeding programs. It is with great pleasure that we announce that registration is now open for the next edition of our annual meetiing, taking place in amsterdam from 5 7 november 2019. This vision represents an evolution of eib in the context of the crops to end hunger initiative (cteh) beyond the initial scope of providing tools, services and expert advice, and serves as a guide for center leadership to drive changes with eib support.
