Development Camfed Through the camfed association, women are leading action on the big challenges their countries face from child marriage, and girls’ exclusion from education, to unemployment and climate change. In october 2014, camfed was recognized by the organisation for economic co operation and development (oecd) for best practice in taking development innovation to scale.
Work For Camfed Camfed By combining practical skills in health, finance, and entrepreneurship with leadership development, this program creates lasting pathways for young women to thrive and become catalysts for change in their communities. Camfed’s post school programme connects women with peers through the camfed association, and supports their transition to secure and sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship or further education. In 2013, the campaign for female education (camfed), launched a breakthrough initiative to train young women from poor, marginalized farming communities across sub saharan africa with support from the mastercard foundation and earth university. Camfed, or campaign for female education, began in 1993 by supporting 32 children in two schools; as of 2021, it had helped more than a million girls in sub saharan africa “to access school, succeed, and become leaders of change in their communities.”.

Camfed gets girls into school, helps them to learn, supports them to succeed, and unlocks their power to lead. the group's locally led approach partners with communities to support the welfare and success of their most vulnerable girls. Camfed is an international non profit organization tackling poverty and inequality in sub saharan africa by supporting girls to go to school and succeed, and empowering young women to step up as leaders of change. Our programs are designed, developed and refined with the young people we serve. they are owned by our partner communities, and spearheaded by members of the camfed association of women leaders educated with camfed support.
