This paper examines the prospects, challenges, and pathways toward smart city development in african cities. the study was conducted through a systematic literature review and case study analyses of initiatives for smart city development in africa.
African Smart Cities Countries across africa are putting “smart cities” on their agendas. rwanda, a regional leader in developing “smart cities,” published a smart cities blueprint in may to help foster the use of technology in urban management. This study provides critical insights into how smart city initiatives can advance sustainable urban development in african cities by aligning with multiple sdgs. Here, we have highlighted the top 10 smart city projects highlighted in this article exemplifying how africa is not only catching up with global urban trends but pioneering its brand of context aware, people centered smart cities. Smart cities in africa are growing fast, merging tech and sustainability. here are 10 urban hubs driving investment transformation.

The african development bank has noted that the most effective smart city investments in africa share three characteristics: they leverage mobile infrastructure, they involve public private partnerships that reduce the burden on cash strapped municipal governments, and they deliver visible improvements in service delivery that build public trust. The asca fosters innovative growth in major cities and rural areas through collaboration, technology, and sustainable development strategies. the asca was proposed by the world smart cities forum (wscf) as an extension of the global twin cities initiative (tci). In this paper, we explore how digital smart city tech nologies were deployed in select sectors in singapore and how the developing countries of africa can address challenges in education, health, and transport via smart city technology in light of its population growth and urbanization.
