Derwent Watershed Howden Edge 21km The derwent watershed is a 40 mile route in the dark peak area of the peak district that circles the upper derwent valley reservoirs. This is my account of the derwent watershed walk, which is a circular walk round the high points of the bowl where all streams and rivers flow into the derwent reservoir and river derwent, also howden and ladybower reservoirs.

Peak District Walk The Derwent Watershed Hillexplorer A wonderful 41 mile tour over some of the wildest and remote areas of the dark peak. the walk is split over 3 days and involves 2 wildcamps: the first on margery hill, the highest summit in south yorkshire, the second on the dramatic plateau of bleaklow. At 39 miles, it covers the whole of the watershed around the derwent reservoirs and, though it’s not officially a challenge walk, it’s up there with the yorkshire 3 peaks in terms of effort required, and even harder in terms of the terrain. Built during the early 1900s, it still stands as a testament to engineering prowess, drawing visitors for both its historical significance and breathtaking landscapes. join me as we explore, the area and find out what you need to know before your visit. It is a varied and demanding route, often traversing difficult terrain which necessitates competent navigational skills. as it includes the most arduous sections of the derwent watershed, this is an excellent introduction for contenders contemplating an attempt on that route.

This beautiful y shaped reservoir in the upper derwent valley was constructed between 1935 and 1943 and required the flooding of the village of derwent and ashopton, with the displaced inhabitants finding a new home just downstream of the ladybower dam. Can i see the drowned village now? probably not. the ruins of derwent are only visible during exceptionally low water levels (severe drought). most of the time, they are deep underwater. The derwent watershed is a 65km hiking route in the peak district. over three days i'll be hiking and wild camping along the route. Enjoy a walk along one of the lake district's most beautiful lakes. derwent water (or derwenwater) is particularly lovely it's surrounded by fells and has several pretty islands including derwent island house, an 18th century residence owned by the national trust and open to the public on five days each year.
