Home Grown Horrors Volume 2 Blu Ray Vinegar Syndrome Exclusive With "dead girls," "moonstalker," and "hanging heart," vinegar syndrome shares a collection of smaller horror features that work with limited resources and easily accessible locations to make. I was excited to check out “ dead girls ” from the synopsis that mentioned a girl rock band heading to a cabin in the middle of nowhere before that pesky murderer pokes its head around a tree trunk. sadly, i didn't get the heavy metal horror i wanted; instead, i got a walk and talk simulator. In dennis divine and steve jarvis' loving tribute to gialli, dead girls, a band staying at a desert based home soon fall prey to a ruthless, black clad killer who chops, stabs, and strangles. Venture into the woods with “dead girls” — an all women death metal band from the late eighties who forgot to bring a plot along with them. a metal band takes a nature filled vacation at a cabin in the woods and is stalked by a don post mask wearing killer.

"dead girls" has the setting and the idea, but devine doesn't have much execution, struggling with his limited budget to cook up some real suspense during the unusually long run time (106 minutes), visibly struggling to make anything in this draggy endeavor seem exciting. The audio isn’t perfect but that just gives it charm. the actors are also surprisingly good in their roles and it’s surprising that most of them didn’t do much before or after dead girls. i could have done with more gore, but all in all, dead girls is a good slasher flick with a crazy ending. My review was written in august 1990 after watching the movie on raedon video cassette. maximum number of plot twists highlight the whodunit "dead girls", a topical film dealing with the influence of a rock group's morbid lyrics on its fans. Taking the formula of a late 80s slasher and injecting copious amounts of no budget charm, along with creative kills and easily one of the highest number of murders in a film from the genre, michael s. o'rourke's moonstalker (shot as camper stamper!) was a passion project for all involved.
