Dc Models Mit Scheller Teacher Education Program First, students will engage in computational modeling in science classes to provide all students opportunities to learn computational thinking. second, teachers will have the opportunity to learn more about the next generation science standards (ngss) and develop curriculum to support the standards. This project is an rpp with the dc school district to integrate computational modeling into their high school science courses, build capacity and train teachers to teach these units, and do research on longitudinal impact on students.

Dc Models Mit Scheller Teacher Education Program We use technology to create powerful learning environments in schools, in the home, and in the community. we work with schools, governments, ngos and other organizations to help them learn new design and development skills and build teacher support capacity. Dc models, a 4 year nsf project, is exploring the incorporation of computational modeling (cm) into the science curriculum of high school students in the district of columbia public schools (dcps) to address the lack of relevant resources for compu tational thinking (ct) education. Nova project. the technical contributions of this work resulted in a custom block system that allows starlogo nova programmers to create, edit, and view custom blocks, organize them into customizable drawers, and use them to build. Mit scheller teacher education partners with dcps to design, pilot, and launch a series of inquiry driven lessons and learning experiences that integrate block coding and computational modeling into all high school science classes.

For instance, one teacher reported that the template helped the teacher identify a student, who struggled with the mental act of decom posing, by asking the student to identify the elements included in the computer model (see table 3). Klopfer's research explores how educational technology, games, and computer simulations can be tools for teaching complex systems and developing cognitive and computational thinking skills. The endowment of rita and joe scheller since 2001 has allowed for the formal establishment of the scheller teacher education program (step) at mit, which aims to develop a cadre of mit undergraduates to innovate the science and math education. The scheller teacher education program and education arcade at mit explore that which is authentically playful in the teaching and learning process.
