I have many d1, kr1, and d1k. i really love the design and feel of the kr1, if you're only getting one light that would be my vote! if you go with the d series i'd suggest the d1k for the higher capacity battery. honestly, you really can't go wrong either way. go with your gut. It's almost exactly the same as a kr1. just like d4v2 vs kr4, you just pick the one you subjectively prefer. they're basically the same light and just vary in styling, switch location, and tailcap magnet presence. if you don't like the way it looks, you don't like the way it looks, and that's fine. i love me a side switch. I have all 3, and i like my kr1 sft40 the best. no frills, tail switch, no aux, or anything. i have a d1 uv and a dm11 xhp50.3 for comparison. in terms of useability, i like cigar grip tail grip on throwers for stability. but it's all up to personal preference.
