Stem Center At Siue This project will train stem faculty to use the flipped teaching approach, with the goal of improving outcomes for students. in addition, our team will study the model to determine how best to support faculty, and this model will be presented nationally to encourage adoption by other institutions. In fact, today the stem center is hosting a gis & mapping training for teachers, exploring how educators can bring geographic information systems, spatial thinking, and mapping technologies into their classrooms. On tuesday, feb. 11, 2025, the edwardsville community foundation awarded southern illinois university edwardsville’s center for stem research, education, and outreach more than $2,000 for the insight for all program. From organizing and hosting engaging stem events to developing and testing innovative curricula, our team of researchers, educators, and creators works to define best practices in stem initiatives. Currently, we have programs investigating aspects of curriculum design that effectively integrates computational thinking, best practices for mentoring first generation college students, and ways to bridge stem and humanities through informal education. The stem center provides leadership and support for stem education activities at siue and throughout southwestern illinois. programs span from formal and informal education to public outreach. We are always looking for new opportunities to partner with other organizations and our staff is always busy working towards helping stem thrive in the region. the list below shows the programs currently underway in the stem center.
