The Union This cxr comes from a 3 month old baby. note the compression of the bronchus on the right caused by enlarged perihilar and subcarinal lymph nodes. a normal thymic shadow can also be seen on this cxr. this cxr was contributed by etienne leroy terquem from support pneumologique international. This cxr shows complicated lymph node disease – there are enlarged paratracheal and perihilar lymph nodes on the right with compression of the bronchus and the trachea is deviated to the left (pushed across by the lymph nodes). The airways appear narrowed (especially on the right), and there is an obvious 'doughnut' sign on the lateral film which indicates the presence of enlarged perihilar and subcarinal lymph nodes. Lymphadenopathy is defined as an enlargement or a change in the character of a lymph node. pathologic lymphadenopathy is usually a symptom of infectious, noninfectious conditions, or, in rare cases, malignant disease.
