Community Resilience In Disaster Preparedness Why It Matters Eis Community resilience is not just about weathering storms together—it’s about creating networks of support that enable individuals and groups to thrive, adapt, and grow stronger through adversity. Community resilience is a measure of the sustained ability of a community to utilize available resources to respond to, withstand, and recover from adverse situations. A resilient community has a healthy ecosystem and habitat. it has a limited amount of pollution in the water, air and land and it has procedures for the reduction of waste, and the recovery, reuse, and recycling of waste materials. Community resilience has been addressed across multiple disciplines including environmental sciences, engineering, sociology, psychology, and economics. interest in community resilience gained momentum following several key natural and human caused hazards in the united states and worldwide. We conducted a systematic review of definitions of community resilience as it relates to disasters, in order to identify the range of definitions of community resilience present in the literature and to identify the range of constituent elements of community resilience that have been proposed. Community resilience can be defined as the capacity of a community to absorb, adapt to, and recover from stresses and shocks, while maintaining its essential functions and quality of life.
