Dead Commodore 64 With Multiple Faults Repair More Problems Fixed Recapping a commodore 64 (all board revisions) restores stable power rails, lowers heat stress on mos chips and cures many “mystery” crashes, video glitches and sid noise. Diagnosing an undocumented fault with the commodore 1541 microslop bricked another laptop, and then tried to brick it again! i thought this sun computer was cool until i tried to fix it.

Suitable Capacitor For Commodore 64 Page 1

Suitable Capacitor For Commodore 64 Page 1 As i understand it, no commodore 64 was manufactured during the unfortunate era of bad capacitors. as such, the only thing recapping does is reduce the value of the hardware and perhaps increase the chances of failure due to recapping mistakes. Lee restores a rare silver label c64, tackles capacitor leakage, and discovers the true nature of the 74ls629 chip in this repair video. It doesn't seem to come from the capacitors themselves but i want to be really sure. no swelling, no tearing, no visible damage on any of them. thank you everyone for your information! i'll post some pictures of the finished product later. i'm really proud of how my old commodore 64 looks on its new acrylic case! kiinnitystahnaa. Some of the capacitors on the board showed signs of leakage, particularly around the ceramic vic ii chip, so they were replaced first. after removing the old capacitors, which were indeed leaking, new ones were installed.

I've heard many times that c64 capacitors don't need replacing.but i got one that definitely needs recapping.maybe they don't leak as easily as e.g. amiga ca. Replacing the electrolytic capacitors (recapping) in your commodore 64c is a vital preventative measure to ensure stable operation, clear video and audio output, and long term reliability. as these components age, they can cause erratic behaviour, power instability, video artefacts, and leackage. You can't visually tell anything about the condition of electrolytic capacitors unless they are *really* bad. personally i would just leave them all alone if the machine works, but if it's getting flaky you could look at replacing the electrolytics. It has been found that replacing c38 with a 4.7nf capacitor improves the response of the restore key, ie: when modded, pressing runstop restore should respond with the same pressure as any other key. this is an radial type capacitor (both wires emerge from same end of cap).
