Comic Book Review Hawkman 1 Hawkman #1 was a solid start for delivering action, character exploration, and depth to a character that can be hit or miss depending on the version they try to capture. Venditti kicks hawkman #1 off with a great four page opening scene. this scene quickly and effectively sets the indiana jones action and adventure theme for carter’s character and the story in general.

Review of hawkman volume 1: awakening. robert venditti and bryan hitch introduce carter hall to past lives across space and time, including rann and krypton. with katar hol, atom ray palmer. This is the dc comics' superhero title that will prove to be the biggest, if not the best, read of the year. venditti and hitch are already a winning combo on hawkman. Sadly, hawkman #1 is not that story. i may be in the minority, but i would love to see a series focused upon how utterly weird archaeology must be in the dc universe and the strange ruins that various cultures left behind. Cover dated april may 1964, hawkman #1 is a gem by fox & anderson. two of the most visually arresting chracters in comics, the hawks also boasted one of the most subtle and sophisticated relationships in the business. The design work especially catches my eye – hawkman’s never looked better, and the temple he’s plundering at the beginning is really nicely done. hitch has always made great art, with cool perspective and wonderfully simple yet expressive angled panelwork. the colors are also excellent.
