The arc centre of excellence in synthetic biology (coesb) is a cross disciplinary, and national research centre, which aims to create the knowledge and strategies necessary for australia to develop a vibrant bioeconomy building on the nation’s strengths in agriculture. The arc centre of excellence in synthetic biology (coesb) is leading the collaborative research and translation agenda for australian synthetic biology. our research brings together: australian and international industry partners. We are pioneering new designs for synthetic microbes, creating custom designed microbial communities and organelles, and entirely new to nature biological pathways and enzymes. our centre brings together 17 research groups from nine australian universities comprising almost 300 researchers. From programmable microbes to self assembling dna structures, the arc centre of excellence’s fifth annual conference painted an ambitious picture of where the field is headed and what it will take. To overcome the limitations of natural biological systems, we use our deep knowledge in synthetic biology to build custom designed microbial communities, construct synthetic organelles and create new to nature enzymes and metabolic pathways.
