Climate Induced Migration The New Normal In Africa Many studies now provide evidence of weather and climate effects on human migration, but only few have attempted to project the impact of future climate change, or attribute the impact of past climate change, on global migration patterns. Yet, given the potential knock on impacts to human systems and the known influence of climate related hazards on displacement, decision makers are asking what role(s) climate change may play in human mobility – both displacement and migration – and what should be done about it. Offering fresh insights and lessons, this report speaks to policymakers, researchers and practitioners confronting one of today’s most pressing global challenges. this study examines the links between climate change and migration, showing how environmental stressors drive human mobility. This report provides an overview of climate change and its impact on migration that informs a proposal for how u.s. foreign assistance can better address the effects of climate change impacts on displacement and migration.

This report provides an overview of climate change and its impact on migration that informs a proposal for how u.s. foreign assistance can better address the effects of climate change impacts on displacement and migration. Through case study analysis from 12 regions in asia, africa and the pacific, this paper explores how climate change induced migration is creating physical health, mental health and wellbeing issues — both for migrants and the families they leave behind. The groundswell model (clement et al., 2021) provides projections of internal migration driven by climate change induced slow onset hazards until 2050 in six world regions. If we let both climate and population change (top panel), the projected climate induced migration flows will double in nearly half of the countries of origin. this will happen primarily in african countries and, to a smaller extent, in asian countries. This report presents the migration and climate informed solutions (macs) framework that brings together domains of action, buttressed by core policy areas, to reduce the scale of climate induced migration, usher in social and economic transformations, and reduce vulnerabilities.
