Cirrhosis Histopathology Guru Cirrhosis: hepatocytes with fatty change are arranged in nodules separated by fibrous bands showing lymphocytic infiltrate (h&e,x100) cirrhosis: regenratingnodule with hepatocytes showing fatty change. adjacent bile ductule is present (h&e,x400). Feathery degeneration is one of the features of chronic cholestasis contributing to the periseptal halo in biliary type cirrhosis (answer c). florid duct lesion is one of the characteristic features of primary biliary cholangitis, which is not associated with periseptal halo (answer d).
Cirrhosis Histopathology Guru Histopathology of liver cirrhosis presented by yimei qin using specimen from dr. gang wang’s private collection. nodules seen in the gross specimens are a continuation of the fibrotic scar tissue that is deposited in and around liver lobules. Cirrhosis is a nonspecific end stage finding at autopsy, specifically a late stage of progressive hepatic fibrosis which distorts hepatic architecture, leading to the formation of regenerative nodules. Histologically, cirrhosis is characterized by vascularized fibrotic septa that link portal tracts with each other and with central veins, leading to hepatocyte islands that are surrounded by fibrotic septa and which are devoid of a central vein (figure 1). Webpathology is an educational resource with high quality pathology images of benign and malignant neoplasms and related entities. it was launched in 2003 by dr. dharam ramnani, with an initial focus on urologic pathology. it was subsequently expanded to include other organ systems.

Microscopically with cirrhosis, the regenerative nodules of hepatocytes are surrounded by fibrous connective tissue that bridges between portal tracts. within this collagenous tissue are scattered lymphocytes as well as a proliferation of bile ducts. Cirrhosis is stage 4 (laennec). perisinusoidal fibrosis may suggest congestive hepatopathy. [1] in nafld portal to portal fibrosis (septal bridging fibrosis) tends to be more common than perivenular fibrosis. [2] the etiology of late stage fibrosis (cirrhosis), may be impossible to determine. This edition of pathology pearls will focus on three major patterns of cirrhosis and the subtle histologic clues to the possible etiology. grossly, there is a distinction based on the size of the nodules (<3 mm = micronodular, and >3 mm = macronodular). Clinical vignette expand 70 year old man with history of chronic alcoholism. imaging revealed a diffusely nodular liver, suggestive of cirrhosis, with splenomegaly. gross description expand the liver is contracted, firm, tan and diffusely nodular. gross image expand gross image (annotated) expand microscopy expand cirrhosis virtual microscopy slide talking pots and slides expand cirrhosis: […].
