Image001 Gif History of calculus is part of the history of mathematics focused on limits, functions, derivatives, integrals, and infinite series. the subject, known historically as infinitesimal calculus, constitutes a major part of modern mathematics education. Three mathematicians, born within three years of each other, were the next to make major contributions. they were fermat, roberval and cavalieri. cavalieri was led to his 'method of indivisibles' by kepler 's attempts at integration. he was not rigorous in his approach and it is hard to see clearly how he thought about his method. Lagrange's commitment to the necessity of an algebraic foundation for the calculus led him to the major accomplishment of the fonctions analytiques, in which he studied functions by means of their power series expansions. From , the free encyclopedia a timeline of calculus and mathematical analysis.

As the mathematics of variability and change, the calculus was the characteristic product of the scientific revolution. the subject was properly the invention of two mathematicians, the german gottfried wilhelm leibniz and the englishman isaac newton. Calculus as we know it was invented (phase ii) by leibniz; newton’s theory of fluxions is equivalent to it, and in fact newton came up with the theory first (using results of his teacher barrow), but leibniz published them first.
