The concept for this restaurant originated from its location beside the courtyard in the boston public library. such courtyards, or walled gardens, orgininated in ancient persia and were called “pairi daeza” in the avestan language (which is the etymology of the modern word “paradise”). The proposal for the boston new media library was a an attempt to meet the needs and desires for a modern public space and, at the same time, meet the scale of the buildings of the north end. this juxtaposition between old world and modern world were constantly at tension with each other.
