Boardgamegeek I have been a fan of lost cities, the two player card game by reiner knizia, for a very long time. when i was offered a chance to check out lost cities: rivals, a two to four player revision of this classic card game, i jumped at the chance. Lost cities: rivals does take a bit longer to play, but it also feels more interactive. as i mentioned above, there are some significant changes from base lost cities, but you don’t need to have experience with that game to enjoy lost cities: rivals.

Boardgamegeek Released earlier this month at gen con, lost cities: rivals is the most different from the other games in its series. knizia’s latest creation is seemingly a mix between the ascending card play from the original lost cities, the auctions from traumfabrik, and the press your luck mechanic of ra. Lost cities: rivals retains the core gameplay of lost cities (making sets of sequential numbers) but adds a simple auction system as well as the ability to play up to 4. Lost cities: rivals is a 2 – 4 player auction bidding game where you are competing to collect expedition cards to collect the most points. although it has some similarities to the original lost cities, rivals is a completely stand alone game, with different game play. Overall, while the game plays four and has a lot of the same roots as the other lost cities keltis games, it doesn’t grow into something as great as its legacy.
