By considering diverse perspectives and needs, designers can create solutions that empower marginalized voices, amplifying their influence in society. this commitment to inclusivity not only enhances the reach of a message but also fosters a more equitable environment. As part of the icl project, we went back to two groups that we worked with in empowering design practices, to capture and celebrate their own journeys and to provide some inspiration for anyone considering a community led civic action project. In this article, we will explore the role of design in empowering communities and promoting sustainability through inclusive and participatory approaches. the principles of design for empowerment are centered around community engagement, inclusivity, and co creation. For sf design week, beyond hosted a panel to learn from industry leaders about how we can create more equity in our communities through design. during this talk, we heard personal stories from leaders living their values around diversity, equity, and inclusion (de&i).
