Blodeuwedd Art Pixels Blodeuwedd is part of paintsil’s series of portraits of women from welsh folklore. blodeuwedd, the central character in the tale of math fab mathonwy, translates from middle welsh as “flower face”. Blodeuwedd is a character from the british (welsh) mythology called the mabinogion. lleu needed a wife and blodeuwedd was created for him out of flowers by a wizard called gwydion. The art work is inspired by welsh folklore and alan garner's book the owl service. made from the flowers of oak, broom and meadowsweet by the wizards math and gwydion, blodeuwedd is known as the goddess of flowers, emotions, the wisdom of innocence and initiation ceremonies. This artwork on the left is a collage called 'trebah' named after a garden in falmouth cornwall that i once visited. i am particularly fond of this garden not only for the time i spent there but also the unique environment in which the garden leads onto a beach.
