Biomore 06 Mining Report
Biomore 06 Mining Report Home » the biomore project – a new mining concept for extracting metals from deep ore deposits using biotechnology » biomore 06. Biomore is an eu funded project within the framework of horizon 2020 and is part of the topic “mining of small and complex deposits and alternative mining”. this project, started in february.
Biomore An Alternative Mining Concept Mining Report In the biomore project, sustainable development indicators were used to compare the social, environmental and economic impacts of the biomore technology with conventional mining. an environmental impact assessment was performed for a generic site, the current european legislation was reviewed. Abstract biomore is an eu funded project within the horizon 2020 funding scheme that addresses the topic “mining of small and complex deposits and alternative mining”. this three year project, started in february 2015, comprises 23 partners located in nine different countries with five universities being included. The innovative in situ method proposed in the biomore project will provide substantial benefits to the mining industry, the european economy and the environment. On 28th september 2017, a press conference took place at the kghm headquarters in lubin poland to introduce the biomore underground installation, where the novel in situ bioleaching concept is being tested under realistic conditions.

The first phase should cover the intended work of the current biomore approach without drilling from surface. the biomore project aims at extracting metals from deep mineralized zones in europe (poland germany, kupferschiefer deposit as a test case) by coupling solution mining and bioleaching. The eu is highly dependent on the import of mineral and metallic raw materials and therefore supports developments that strengthen european mining of these commodities. We test drill cores from the ore body for their permeability and leaching efficiency by flow through visualization by means of geopet and reactive leaching experiments. results are mergend and compared to numerical modelling results of the reactive transport on drill core scale.
