He is the author of “a cartoonist’s guide to the bible” and “the visual preacher: proclaiming an embodied word.” in his work as an artist, he regularly focuses on writing and drawing about spiritual formation, biblical studies, theology, and art. A cartoonist’s guide to the bible is a library of visual resources to study, teach and preach the bible. it is the lifelong project of rev. dr. steve thomason, ph.d. Steve thomason ’15 ph.d. began creating biblical illustrations in 2002. it was shortly after he left a preaching position at a megachurch in las vegas to help start a house church. thomason made cartoons that accompanied weekly devotional guides for the house church community. Steve is the associate professor of spiritual formation at luther seminary, an artist, and a rostered pastor in the elca. his life work has been a fusion of art and theology. view his theological reflections and art at stevethomason and explore the bible visually at cartoonist bible.
