Though it sounds like valve has a relatively healthy culture, and combined with being privately owned and financially stable, there is likely less risk and pressure on everyone. While valve’s almost free form structure may not be ideal for every company, the lessons learned here about improved productivity and engagement are of use to all ( inc ). however, things does seem to be what it actually looks like.
