Deep learning based weather prediction (dlwp) models have undergone remarkable advancements in recent years, achieving forecast accuracy commensurate with well established numerical weather prediction (nwp) models, all while significantly curtailing processing costs. In this paper, we survey the state of the art studies of deep learning based weather forecasting, in the aspects of the design of neural network (nn) architectures, spatial and temporal scales, as well as the datasets and benchmarks. This paper has explored various ai ml techniques, including regression models, classification models, deep learning approaches, and hybrid models, each offering distinct advantages in improving weather forecasting accuracy. We show examples of the use of machine learning techniques as a new method that helps to solve important and complex issues in weather forecasting and in the study of climate change over different temporal and spatial scales.
