Welcome Anna Larkin Homes For Sale And Rent For many weeks between 16 february and late march 1965, major bushfires burnt across a wide landscape of gippsland in victoria, australia, from lake glenmaggie in the west to well beyond bruthen and tambo crossing in the east. [1][2]. The poster design came from a photo i took when i lived on a bush block 5km north of briagolong and a major fire passed several kilometres north of us. i used the same motive for posters, media releases and letterhead to keep the identity of the program consistent. (see letterhead header below). The company had five fire towers (mt taylor, longford, flynn, silver creek and boola) that enabled watchers to call in signs of smoke to the fire control room in the gippsland office, where the sightings could be triangulated to locate any fire. A wonderful event was held yesterday to mark the 55th anniversary of the 1965 bushfires that impacted our region. over 120 people attended the event held at the valencia creek hall, which was used as a command centre back in 1965.

The gippsland sky glows pink and red north east of briagolong as fire activity increases. (supplied: anna larkin) spring bushfires continue to burn out of control in gippsland, with windy conditions hampering firefighting efforts. For many weeks between 16 february and late march 1965, major bushfires burnt across a wide landscape, from lake glenmaggie in the west to well beyond bruthen and tambo crossing in the east. A document that reconstructs these momentous events has now been compiled. there are some striking similarities to what happened during the 1965 gippsland bushfire emergency and those of more recent decades. there are some obvious differences as well. A number of people have collected information over the past few years to try to recreate the story of the fires. most of this is from the western side of the fires including briagolong and surrounds.
