Alison armstrong is a writer of prose and plays. she grew up in leeds and east yorkshire and has worked as a cleaner, waitress, painter and teacher, as well as developing her writing career. Lancashire based debut author alison armstrong introduces 12 year old sherrie lee, who witnesses a failed bank robbery in her neglected town and seizes an opportunity to claim a new identity for herself. There is a lot of great writing coming from the north, and i am always excited about work with a northern flavour – writing that champions northern stories and histories and places. it feels good to be part of a community of northern writers and see what is coming out of the north. Twenty five writers from the north of england received northern writers’ awards, collectively worth upwards of £50,000, at the northern writers’ awards on tuesday 20th june at a ceremony. Her first novel, fossils (saraband, 2022), came out in 2022, while her first play, lost voices of morecambe winter gardens, was performed in 2021, supported by arts council england and royal society of literature. she has won and been shortlisted for several awards.
