Together we heal and the folded map project partnered to create a custom designed action kit to align with the year of healing. our goal is to help chicagoans understand how segregation maintains and continually (re)builds racial inequities.

Folded Map Project Guided by tonika’s vision, the folded map action kit presents a curated list of tasks, encouraging individuals to venture into neighborhoods racially and economically different than their own. Welcome to folded map action kit: together we heal edition! the folded map project and chicago’s office of equity & racial justice have joined forces to create an interactive experience that builds an understanding of how segregation in our neighborhoods maintains and sustains racial inequities. After watching social justice artist tonika johnson’s 30 minute animated movie about her childhood experience with chicago’s segregation, guide your students through a series of reflections and activities that culminate in an action plan to help disrupt the cycle of segregation in their own lives. This specially designed, thoughtfully curated folded map™ kit was built with the intention to help you understand the structural disparities between chicago neighborhoods. use it as a guide to actively make new connections and explore a part of the city you might have a narrow understanding of.
