Urban Garden Grassroots Gardens Wny Buffalo Grassroots gardens of western new york is a determined group of activists who educate and lead committed neighborhood gardeners. we collaboratively cultivate and manage more than 300,000 square. In 2014 he purchased an empty lot at the city foreclosure auction and transformed it into a garden where he grows fruits, vegetables, and perennial flowers. he enjoys how gardens can be effective conversation starters as a way to build positive relationships within the neighborhood. In the last 30 years, grassroots gardens wny has grown from a small group of passionate people helping others develop community gardens to a well respected organization that helps people engage their communities and connect with the land in many ways, all across the region. In a place that used to be just grass and a brick wall, this schoolyard habitat project is more than just a garden now—it’s a living classroom where students explore conservation through hands on learning, creativity, and stewardship.

The role of grassroots gardens as a land trust allows them to hold strong against the demands the real estate market, or the tumultuous effects of a changing climate. this commitment helps preserve biodiversity, protect wildlife, and maintain the ecological balance of an area. Our work is rooted in the belief that a community garden has the power to transform a neighborhood or school. creating a garden together is empowering it creates environmental awareness for people of all ages and improves physical, social and emotional health. We collaboratively cultivate and support more than 100 community gardens in buffalo and niagara falls. our work is rooted in the belief that a garden has the power to transform a neighborhood. community gardens deliver beauty and escape while many produce healthy food in unexpected places.
