Production of thin sections (polished, both sided polished or covered), smear slides and orientated embedding (mounts) of different materials.the lab is equipped with several (a plurality of) modern devices.
Services Thin Section Lab We have been responsible for thin section preparation in collaborative research projects with universities, research institutes, and medical organizations. we have produced thin sections across a wide range of fields, including biological specimens, urinary stones, and industrial materials. Thin slices of rocks (billets) are mounted on glass slides and usually ground to a thickness of 35 microns. at this thickness, the thin section will easily transmit light. various optical tests can thus be performed, or fossils and structures studied, with the aid of the petrographic microscope. What are thin section? these are rock or mineral samples cut and polished to a thickness of 30 micrometres (µm), allowing light to pass through them. this makes them ideal for study by transmitted light petrographic microscopy, revealing their composition and geological processes. what are they for?.
