Canadian research suggests that mentors should be aboriginal and that the programs should include the youth’s family, traditional values and culture, and adequate resources for sustainability, including transportation for mentors and youth. We are the only indigenous education program where 100% of the mentors working with students are aboriginal and or torres strait islander. our mentors are trained across a range of key professional, interpersonal and facilitation skills. At dhinewan mentoring, we believe learning is most powerful when it’s authentic, inclusive, and connected to country. as an education and mentoring organisation, we’re redefining the way schools and workplaces learn, grow, and connect. The programme is for all aboriginal youth, regardless of their nations, and they attend six cultural mentoring sessions and one on country 3 day camp. the programme is funded through the state government department and young people are referred by statutory services, not for profit support programmes, or community members.
